"Explore" Library Tours Partnership with Edmonton Public Library
The Edmonton Public Library offers a free library card to youth under 17 and invites schools to bring elementary students on orientation tours of the Library to see how things run. Some schools identify transportation as the reason for not being able to participate in the Library's orientation tours, which are often a student's first opportunity to get a library card. In exchange for access to regular transit service from 9am to 3pm on the day of the trip to the local library branch, teachers and librarians provide public transit information as part of the program and the class gets an introductory experience taking ETS as transportation.
Teachers/assistants plan the class trip on ETS in advance of the outing using ETS's various information services. At the library branch, the librarian conducting the orientation can use the ETS website as an Internet search activity, and gives out ETS information leaflets to all participants. The leaflet covers information basics, how to plan a transit trip and rules of behaviour on public transit.
