Poetry on ETS

About Take the Poetry Route

Since 1999, poets of all ages have seen their poems on Take the Poetry Route. Poems are selected for publication on interior advertising panels on ETS buses and LRT.

Edmonton is the third city in Canada, after Vancouver and Toronto, to have a poetry-in-transit project. The
Edmonton Arts Council is the driving force behind this successful project , which is supported by ETS, the City of Edmonton, The Canada Council for the Arts, and Pattison Outdoor Group.

This project celebrates the work of poets and makes riding public transit a more enriching and pleasurable experience.

A Place Called River Ice
Calvin Wiens, age 11; Greenview School, Edmonton

Where goals are scored
Where laughter has soared
At a place called river ice
Where ice scrapes metal
Where dreams don’t settle
At a place called river ice

When the light starts to fade
Legends are made
There is nowhere like river ice

When Snow Falls
Jordan Zeng, age 18, Centre High Campus, Edmonton

The earth has gone to sleep;
The good fall apart; so the better can fall in place
We stand in snow; so deep
Like our love.
Yet, as bright as the fire
Which stands before us; with each embrace
Feeding our desire; in your arms,
I’ve found my place; upon the lips of a snow angel,
Soft; like the first falling flakes of winter.

I’ve found love in winter.

One Chance
Bethany Wollin, age 14;  Meadowlark Christian School, Edmonton

Staring down the icy mountain peak
A rush of courage begs me to advance
A frosty kiss upon my frozen cheek
Staring down the icy mountain peak
A path through deadly banks is what I seek
Knowing I may only have one chance
Staring down the icy mountain peak
A rush of courage begs me to advance

My Dream Sport
Kennedy Bowering, Grade 8, Broxton Park School, Spruce Grove

I step onto the ice, shaking
Time has stopped
This is it
This is the moment I have trained for
This is my life
When the music starts my anxieties disappear
I hear cheering from the stands
I twirl and jump and soar with glee
This is who I am
