About the Project

The business plan is a key step toward advancing the River Crossing vision, which is to transform West Rossdale into a vibrant community and a special place for all Edmontonians.

The work involves preparing an updated redevelopment concept for West Rossdale that considers future land uses in the area, including a repurposed Rossdale power plant, as well as infrastructure requirements. The plan will also determine how best to implement the redevelopment concept.

Building on previous studies, including the West Rossdale Urban Design Plan and Heritage Interpretive Plan, the plan will involve financial analysis and capitalize on the area’s city-building potential. The plan will identify public investment that can be staged over time and establish partnerships that will help make the plan a success.

Next Steps

Staff are planning several phases of public engagement and outreach starting in late 2017. At the end of each phase, the project team will report back on input that was received.

Initial Engagement: Fall 2017
Engage the public to collect ideas and input to inform the creation of concept design options.

Sharing Concept Designs: Winter 2018
Concept design options will be shared with the public. Feedback from this engagement phase will help staff evaluate and refine the options and determine a preferred design.

Refining the Preferred Design: Summer 2018
In this final round of engagement, a preferred concept will be shared with the public. Feedback gathered will help staff refine this concept.

Presenting the Business Plan Report to City Council: Late 2018
A refined preferred concept and supporting report will be presented to Urban Planning Committee in late 2018 for potential funding in the next City budget cycle (2019-2022).
