The City of Edmonton has submitted an annexation application to the Municipal Government Board. The Municipal Government Board will host public hearings and make a recommendation on the application to the Province. The Province will make the final decision on the annexation application.

The City of Edmonton’s proposed annexation area is 8,267 hectares (about 20,428 acres) of land from Leduc County east and west of the Queen Elizabeth II Highway, including a portion of 50th street within the Town of Beaumont. The proposed annexation area is a result of feedback from the public, Annexation Negotiating Committee, technical reports, such as servicing and growth studies, and the proposed growth plan for the Edmonton Metropolitan Region.

Annexation Agreement

Leduc Annexation Agreement

It also outlines future joint planning initiatives, the compensation to be paid by the City of Edmonton, and describes various transition provisions, such as tax protection for landowners.

Inter-Jurisdiction Cooperation Accord

As a part of the Annexation Agreement, the City of Edmonton, Leduc County, the City of Leduc and the Edmonton International Airport Authority have agreed to a Inter-Jurisdiction Cooperation Accord, prioritizing the Edmonton International Airport as a key economic engine in the region and province. The Accord identifies a new model for inter-jurisdictional collaboration to achieve shared benefits for all partners at a shared cost.

Intermunicipal Planning Framework Agreement

The City of Edmonton, Leduc County and the Town of Beaumont have reached an agreement to coordinate land use and infrastructure planning around the boundary interfaces between the parties. The Intermunicipal Planning Framework Agreement establishes a common understanding of intermunicipal joint planning principles, strategic interests and a commitment from the City of Edmonton to remove the nine quarter sections of land located within the Town of Beaumont from the City’s annexation application.
