Established in 2002, the Office of Emergency Management:

  • Ensures the City of Edmonton is prepared for and can respond to and recover from all hazards including natural disasters, technological incidents and human-caused incidents.
  • Conducts training and exercises with city staff and stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • Promotes community resiliency through personal emergency preparedness.

Individuals, families and businesses can support our community’s resiliency by doing their part in being personally prepared for up to one week and ensuring their emergency plans and business continuity plans are in place.

If you have a question or concerns related to fire, evacuation planning, or fire extinguisher training, please contact Fire Prevention at 780-496-3628.

Emergency Operations Centre

During a major emergency or incident, the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) brings together representatives from Edmonton’s City departments and emergency response community to strategically coordinate resources in support of on-scene operations and activities.

Emergency Support Response Team

The Emergency Support Response Team (ESRT) is an operational unit within the Office of Emergency Management. ESRT provides support to people displaced from their homes during an emergency or disaster, addressing immediate needs such as shelter, food and clothing.

Depending on the type and the severity of the emergency, ESRT may set up one or several reception centres for individuals displaced from their homes.

If a Reception Centre set up in your area or in your community, and you live in the affected area, it is IMPORTANT to personally register – even if you choose to stay with family or friends. Emergency responders use the registration process to ensure all affected residents are accounted for and safe.
