- 1. Why is my property assessed as being complete, when the building is unfinished?
The annual assessment notice reflects the condition of your property as of December 31 of last year. If your property was mistakenly assessed as being 100 per cent complete as of December 31, please call 780-496-6388 to have this information reviewed and corrected if warranted.
- 2. What if my neighbour's property has been renovated or improved in some way (e.g. a finished basement or garage added), and yet the assessment on my neighbour's property is similar to mine?
Any information provided by a third party will have to be verified by the assessor. A site inspection of the subject property, as well as others in the area, will be conducted to ensure that the correct data has been used to determine the assessments. Please call 780-496-6388.
- 3. What if the size of my home, as indicated on the City's website, is wrong?
Measurements used for assessment purposes reflect exterior measurements and may differ from what your builder has stated. If you believe that incorrect measurements have been used to calculate your assessment, please call 780-496-6388.
- 4. How do I arrange for a re-inspection of my property to ensure that the information used to calculate my assessment is correct?
Please call us at 780-496-6388. The assessment department will arrange for an assessor to re-inspect your property.
- 5. My property is vacant. There are no buildings on it, so why does my property assessment include a building?
The property assessment reflects the physical characteristics and attributes of your property as of December 31 of the previous year. If the building was removed or demolished after this date, the assessment record will continue to include buildings. The removal of the building will be reflected on next year's property assessment.
- 6. What does basement development mean?
Basement development refers to the lower level (below grade) of a home having a finished floor, walls and ceiling. Finished materials may consist of drywall or panelling for walls, drywall or ceiling tiles for ceiling, and carpet, linoleum, etc. on the floor.
- 7. How does the City calculate the size of my home?
The size of your home is based on the external building dimensions as provided in the building plans or gathered through a physical inspection of the property. It does not include basement area or the third (lower) level of a split-level style home.
- 8. How do you determine / calculate the size of my lot?
The size of your lot is determined from the registered subdivision plans and the Land Titles Registry system.
- 9. I'm using the Edmonton Maps system, why am I not able to access assessment information?
Please check that your query is entered as Assessment Info and not Property Info.
