Concerns With Assessed Value

Review your property value assessment notice.

  • Compare your assessment with similar properties, appraisals, listings and other market value indicators. Your assessment should reflect what your house may have sold for on July 1 last year.
  • If you don’t think the assessment is a reflection of the market value at July 1, 2008, or for other questions, contact the City (311) and ask for a City assessor for a detailed explanation. If necessary, data errors will be corrected.
  • If your concerns are not resolved, you may file a complaint (appeal) with the Assessment Review Board.
  • Complaints (appeals) must be received by the Clerk of the Assessment Review Board before 4:30pm on February 10, 2009.
  • (Property owners can appeal their assessed property value, but they cannot appeal their May tax bill.)

You may appeal your property value assessment, but you cannot appeal your taxes in May. A complaint form is sent with all residential assessment notices. An online form is also available.
