Traveling Playground

When the Traveling Playground visits housing complexes in Edmonton every summer, kids can head out their front doors for free fun and adventure.

Instead of children traveling to their local playground to visit the Green Shack, the Traveling Playground brings the fun to them.

Our recreation team loads up the van with craft supplies, sports equipment, games, and activities. Then they visit Capital Region Housing complexes and areas without other programming opportunities on a rotating basis over the summer. Full-time recreation leaders can be provided at one location in partnership with the local community league.

When the van arrives, children ages four and up can enjoy outdoor games and activities and get to know other kids in their neighbourhood. Teens are encouraged to get involved too and help connect City staff with their parents/guardians.

By connecting people with their communities, we help build more vibrant neighbourhoods – and great neighbourhoods make Edmonton a special place to call home.
