Please leave designated parking stalls for people who need them.

Be aware. Show you care.

Parking stalls at shopping malls and around the city are sometimes difficult to find. Remember, parking in a designated accessible stall not only puts individuals with disabilities in a difficult position, but it is also illegal.

Why is accessible parking important?

People who have legitimate parking placards are unable to walk unassisted for more than 50 metres. These individuals need larger stalls to load and unload devices such as walkers and wheelchairs, and unobstructed access to curb cuts.

If you illegally use an accessible stall, individuals with disabilities may be forced to walk distances beyond restrictions that are specified by a medical practitioner, thus putting themselves at risk. Some individuals may not be able to park at all.

What is the penalty for a parking violation?

If you illegally park in an accessible stall, you could face a $250 fine and/or your vehicle may be towed with the applicable towing and storage fees applied at the police impound yard.

Can I get an accessible parking placard?

If you are unable to walk unassisted for more than 50 metres, you may qualify. To request a placard, talk with your medical practitioner. For application forms and information, visit any Alberta Registry Agent or Alberta Transportation’s website.

How do I report a parking violation?

For a one-time enforcement:

Call the Edmonton Police 24-hour non-emergency complaint line: 780-423-4567. The dispatcher will take down all necessary details and assign the next available parking enforcement officer.

For ongoing concerns:

Call 780-496-5174 to place an Enforcement Request.
