It's a great new website that shows how waste and recyclables flow through our cities and towns, using Edmonton as a good example. It's designed for Grade 4 students, but is fun for kids of all ages. Free colourful posters, videos and activity booklets are available online.

Tour the Edmonton Waste Management Centre (EWMC)

Come see North America's largest Composting Facility! Watch all those Blue Bag and Blue Bin recyclables get sorted out. Learn the history of our sanitary landfill: how it is built for environmental safety; how decomposing waste can be used to produce electricity; how the site is being reclaimed as a natural area; and much more. "Waste and our World" Presentation

The world of garbage and recycling comes alive as students discover the past, present and exciting future of waste management in Edmonton. The presentation is usually delivered to science classes but it can easily be applied to various areas of social studies, environmental and outdoor education. Call 780-496-6879 to register.

"Choose to Reuse"

Students learn the importance of REUSE in reducing waste. They're challenged to find creative and valuable alternatives to throwing stuff away. Call 780-496-5404.

"Choose to Reuse" Presentations are offered on Wednesdays, in your classroom or at the Reuse Centre.

"Squirmy-Wormy" Vermicomposting Presentation

Worm Composting is especially applicable to elementary science classes. For an engaging and fun presentation on the ecosystem created by these little creatures, please call 780-496-5404.

"Garbage In, Compost Out"

Our Compost Chef cooks up some compost pie while the kids plant a seed in finished compost, make a Compost Tea Bag, explore a worm bin, and finish with "The Bong Show". Parent helpers assist kids with their activities and join the "Bong Show" fun. Call 780-496-5404 to book.

"GI,CO" Presentations are offered Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from September through December. Grade 4 - 2 hours.
