Odour Control

The Waste Management Branch is continually working to improve odour management at its facilities. Ongoing efforts to reduce odours at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre include the following:

• The Clover Bar landfill is covered with soil daily to limit odours.

• The composting facility is fully enclosed and uses odour-control filters in ventilation.

• Yard waste composting activity is restricted to between 9 am and 4 pm to reduce potential for odours in the evening.

• Turning of composting piles out doors is generally completed before 4:00 pm.

• The Nasal Ranger program, established in 2000, trains city staff to recognize and report various odours.
