Needles and Syringes

First Choice - Pharmacies

Contact your pharmacy for information on local needle take back programs. Not all pharmacies offer this service.

Second Choice

Eco Stations will accept used needles, syringes and lancets from households. Residents should place the needles in a puncture proof plastic container (e.g., bleach or vinegar bottles). Please ensure container is clearly labelled by writing "sharps" on it.

Hypodermic needles, syringes, lancets and any other sharp items used in home medical care are not accepted in household waste - Waste Management Bylaw 13777 Section 13 (e) - Prohibited Items

Never put needles in blue bags or bins. They are not recyclable. Recyling material is hand sorted at the Materials Recovery Facility and needles put workers at risk.

If you need more information on safe needle disposal, please read the Safe Needle Disposal Toolkit
