Construction and Demolition Waste Recycling

Construction and Demolition Waste Recycling Facility at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre

New - mixed C & D recycling

A new recycling facility for mixed construction and demolition (C&D) waste began operation at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre in January 2012.

The new facility provides project owners, construction companies, homebuilders and haulers with competitively priced options to divert material from landfill and further their own and Edmonton’s reputation for being “green”.

The facility uses mechanical and manual sorting to separate mixed loads of material into various re-usable commodities. To be considered acceptable, at least 75% of an individual load must be wood, metal, drywall, asphalt/concrete, asphalt shingles, cardboard and paper.

The facility will make it easier for LEED projects to attain the 50% or 75% waste diversion credits/points.
