Buddy Up!

Did you know every City of Edmonton waste collector picks up an average of 9 tonnes of garbage each day? That is the equivalent weight of ten compact cars.

Each stop to collect waste and blue bags from our homes increases fuel consumption and causes vehicle wear and tear. Each time your collector gets out of the truck there's a small chance of injury, especially in the winter.

With this in mind, when you're setting out your waste, buddy it up with a neighbour's or let your neighbours know they can buddy up with you. Either way, there's one big pile instead of a bunch of small ones.

It works for blue bags too. Just leave some distance between the two piles so the collector can quickly identify recyclables from waste materials.

That's all there is to it. It's simple and voluntary, but very helpful. Thanks!

May 21, 2008 News Release - Councillor Bryan Anderson encourages Edmontonians to "buddy up" on waste collection.
