Assisted Waste Collection

The City’s Waste Management Branch offers an assisted waste collection service for customers who cannot get their recycling or garbage to the curb or lane. Collectors will walk up to the home to pick up garbage and recycling. There is no additional charge for this service.

- 1. Who is eligible?
This service is for Edmonton residents with temporary or permanent mobility challenges who do not have someone to take their waste to the curb or back lane for them.
- 2. How can I apply?
Complete and submit the online application form.
A print friendly application form is also available. Printed applications can be completed and either faxed or mailed following the instructions on the application form to the City’s Waste Management Branch.- 3. How will my application be processed?
We will contact you by telephone within one week after receiving your application to confirm the information on your application and make arrangements for a home visit. At the home visit our collection services representative will finalize the details of your assisted service including a start date. Please note final approval of your application may require you to provide supporting documentation from a health care provider regarding your disability.
- 4. How long can I receive the service?
The service will be provided for a minimum of three months and for as long as you have the need. If your disability is permanent, service will be ongoing from the commencement date. If your disability is temporary you will need to reapply every six months. It is also your responsibility to let us know if you no longer need the service by contacting the Waste Management Branch at 780-496-5698.
- 5. What will the collector pick up?
The collector will pick up the same materials that are collected from all households and the same regulations will apply. Recycling must be in blue bags and garbage can be in a bag (not blue) or container. Each container must be no larger than 100 litres. Each bag or container should weigh no more than 20 kg (44 lbs).
