Firefighter Recruitment Aptitude Test

To succeed in today's demanding fire rescue environment, firefighters must have specific skills and aptitudes. The aptitude test measures and assesses the following skills:

  • Reading, math, map reading, writing abilities, interpersonal skills, teamwork, commitment, honesty, integrity and emotional stability.
  • Spatial skills, problem solving, analysis and decision-making related to fire technology and science.
  • Aptitudes related to repair and/or maintenance of equipment and tools, and use and operation of equipment and tools.
  • Personality traits such as following orders, abilities to maintain effective relations with co-workers and the public.

Candidates will be advised when and where the aptitude test is conducted, and attendance is compulsory. The 3 hour exam is timed, multiple choice and computer-scored. A Fire Service Testing company analyzes the overall results to determine scoring.

There will be no re-writes during the recruitment process.   Only applicants who meet the minimum competency score will be considered for advancement to the Physical Fitness Test.

Note: The firefighter recruitment process is subject to change.
