About Dispatch Services
Dispatch Services staff, operating out of the Emergency Response Communications Centre, respond to calls for fire rescue and emergency medical services 24 hours a day.
What happens when you call 911?
911 calls are answered by Edmonton Police Service 911 operators. If Fire Rescue Services or Emergency Medical Services is required, the call is transferred to the Emergency Response Communications Centre (ERCC).
Dispatchers at the ERCC:

- Obtain crucial information and provide immediate instructions to the caller.
- Provide ongoing information and communications support to emergency services staff.
Every stage of the call is monitored and recorded in a computer database. Key call stages include the call evaluation time, dispatch time and communication time (combined evaluation and dispatch time).
What should you do if you mistakenly dial 911?
Should you mistakenly call the 911 operator, please stay on the line and indicate that you have dialed them by mistake and that there is no emergency.
