Education Tax

Under provincial law, the City of Edmonton collects the education tax for the Government of Alberta through the property tax.

In 2008, the average residential property tax bill in Edmonton directed about 62% to the City to fund municipal services, and the remaining 38% went to the Province.

The Province of Alberta notifies each municipality in March or April how much each municipality must collect for the education tax. Because of this the City does not know your final tax bill until after this announcement is made.
