Carbon Dioxide Reduction Edmonton (CO2RE)
![]()
Carbon Dioxide Reduction Edmonton (CO2RE) is our community-wide initiative, developed by the community, for the community. Our aim is to permanently reduce local greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. These emissions are linked to climate change. Our goal is to reduce GHG emissions in Edmonton from 1990 levels by up to 20% by the year 2020.
Whether you're a resident or company, we have tips and resources on how to reduce your environmental impact.

Sears Canada offering $150 home energy evaluation rebate
As a partner in the ecoENERGY Retrofit – Homes initiative, Sears Canada will rebate $150 of the cost of a home energy evaluation in the form of a credit toward the purchase of ENERGY STAR®-qualified products.
Phone Sears at 1-866-878-1283 or visit Sears Home Central for details.
CO2RE Rebate Update
CO2RE's $500 furnace rebate has concluded. Edmonton residents who had an ecoENERGY audit done on or before May 22, 2009 still qualify and have until September 30, 2009 to complete their post-retrofit evaluation ('E' evaluation) in order to receive this rebate.
For information on the status of your rebate, please call 311. (Note: the rebate is part of the ecoENERGY process so no application form was required.)
Other rebates are available through:
- Climate Change Central (1-888-537-7202) – new provincial funding
- ecoENERGY (1-800-O-CANADA or 1-800-622-6232) – increased federal funding
See items below for more information.
Provincial Rebates Available
The province is investing $36 million in consumer rebates to help Albertans reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. As part of the three-year program, rebates are available to existing homeowners who improve their energy efficiency, to new home buyers who purchase energy efficient homes and to taxi operators who are transitioning their fleet to hybrid vehicles.
Eligible purchases, which are retroactive to January 1, 2009, include:
- new homes that achieve a high level of energy efficiency
- energy evaluations for homeowners to assess the current energy efficiency of their home and to measure its efficiency after home improvements are made
- efficient home heating systems, hot water heating systems, clothes washers and insulation upgrades
The rebate program will be run by Climate Change Central, a non-profit organization created in 2000 to empower Albertans to take action on climate change. For specific information on what purchases are eligible and how to apply for a rebate, visit Climate Change Central or call toll free at 1-888-537-7202.
ecoENERGY Rebate Update (Federal Program)
Changes effective March 30, 2009, (on or after your 'E' evaluation or post evaluation):

- You are still eligible for up to $5000 from the ecoEnergy program rebates available for high efficiency furnaces at 92% or higher efficiency ratings
- You can now re-apply into the ecoENERGY program for an additional 18 months (or until March 31st, 2011) after your post-evaluation ('E' evaluation) completion date
