More than 500 delegates worldwide came to Edmonton for the ICLEI World Congress, June 14-18, 2009. Mayors, Councillors and local government officials from more than 800 cities gathered for this unique and inspiring conference on environmental sustainability.

About ICLEI
ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability is an international association of local governments and their associations that have made a commitment to sustainable development.
The ICLEI World Congress takes place every three years and provides Mayors, local government elected officials and staff, representatives from international agencies, national governments, donors and other partners with the opportunity for peer exchanges, knowledge-sharing, capacity building and on-site visits and exhibits.
Community Programs
In conjunction with and leading up to the ICLEI Congress, the City of Edmonton developed a Community Program by soliciting, encouraging and supporting community-based initiatives, events and activities.
Eight Community Partnership Projects receive $5,000 seed funding
- Watch webisodes featuring real Edmontonians who are incorporating sustainable measures in their everyday lives. These videos were produced by ACTV, and sponsored by the City of Edmonton through the seed funding.
