Natural Connections Conservation Plan

Natural Connections Integrated Conservation Plan applies an outcome-based, ecological network approach to the conservation of Edmonton's natural areas systems. It includes two components: a Strategic Plan and a Biodiversity Action Plan.

Both components of the Plan are informed by the City of Edmonton's State of Natural Areas Report (2006), which identified a natural area network for Edmonton; and by a Public Engagement Process conducted by the Office of Natural Areas in the fall of 2006. The exit reports for the Public Engagement Process can be found below. The Plan is also supported by the Natural Area Systems Policy (C-531).

Public Engagement Process Reports

In November and December of 2006, the Office of Natural Areas carried out an extensive public engagement process to collect input from Edmontonians on how the City should move forward on the conservation of Edmonton's natural area systems. That process informed the development of Natural Connections, a Strategic Conservation Plan for the City. The results of the process, which included an online survey, several open houses, two focus groups and a facilitated public workshop, are now available in the form of five individual event reports and one summary report.

In May of 2007, the Office of Natural Areas took a draft of Natural Connections back to Edmontonians to seek their feedback. The report below summarizes the results of that process.
