Local Action for Biodiversity
In the spring of 2007, the City of Edmonton was invited to participate in an international study of local governments' involvement in biodiversity protection. The 3-year project is called the "Local Action for Biodiversity (LAB) Project", and is being headed by the international organization Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI). Edmonton is one of 19 cities participating from around the world. The LAB project will enable the City to showcase the many ecological initiatives it is currently undertaking, and to learn from other urban centres from around the world how we might better protect our natural systems.
The following documents provide an overview of the Local Action for Biodiversity Project:

The City recently completed a Biodiversity Report, one of several requirements for involvement in the LAB project. The Report provides an overview of Edmonton's ecology, outlines the City's conservation governance structure, and includes an inventory of local biodiversity initiatives, both City- and community-led.
