ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability
Edmonton is a member of ICLEI (Local Governments for Sustainability), an international association made up of 1027 local governments, along with national and regional local government associations, who have made a commitment to sustainable development. ICLEI works with member cities to achieve sustainable development through international results-oriented programs.
Since 2007, Edmonton has been involved with ICLEI's Local Action for Biodiversity project.
Edmonton has also been selected as the host city for the next Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI) World Congress, to take place in 2009. This conference takes place every three years and provides an opportunity for local and national governments, international agencies and other partners to share knowledge and build capacity.
