Tree Assessment

The stress of climate change and the introduction of exotic pests have negatively affected Edmonton’s urban forest. Since 2002, Parks personnel have been assessing the urban forest for trees in decline and associated pest problems.  The citywide assessment is performed from June to October.

The information gathered by the tree assessment team is used to direct extra care to the stressed trees and is shared with the pest management staff for monitoring and treatment.

Trees identified for removal are rechecked before any action is taken. As always, any tree assessed as posing a liability or a hazard to people or property is removed on a priority basis.
