Donating Trees to the City
Transplanting Trees
Transplanting trees requires large, expensive equipment and proper planning. The City wants to ensure that a tree move is successful. Therefore, it only transplants trees in the spring during April and May, and in the fall between August and October.
Things you need to know if you plan to donate a tree to the City
Your tree needs to:
- Have a diameter no greater than 15 cm measured at 1. 2 m above ground
- Be healthy; pest and disease free
- Be without excessive scarring or other damage
- Have no excessive pruning (evergreens must be in natural form)
The City does not accept poplars, Manitoba maples or any shrubs
We need:
- Unobstructed path to your tree (a path that doesn't cross private sidewalk or driveway)
- 2.4 m clearance around the tree (this includes other plant material)
- Alberta First Call (1-800-242-3447) written verification that the tree is clear of all underground and overhead utilities
Please give us a call if you can meet all these criteria. We will check the tree out within 2 weeks and will leave an acceptance or rejection letter in your mail box.
