Arbor Day in Edmonton

Arbor Day - May 6, 2011

A Day of Celebration

The 2011 Arbor Day celebration was held Friday, May 6 at Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park next to the Valley Zoo.

Arbor Day in Edmonton

The City of Edmonton Arbor Day tradition began by distributing evergreen seedlings to grade one students in the early 1950’s. The Province of Alberta soon recognized an educational opportunity and stepped in to provide seedlings for every grade one student in the province. The Forestry Section of the City of Edmonton took it one step further by creating a celebration incorporating grade one students in a 'tree-rific' day of learning and fun. Edmonton’s Arbor Day is celebrated each year on the Friday prior to May 10.
