Business Supporting Community
The Capital City Clean Up Business Supporting Community initiative matches businesses with not-for-profit groups and schools. Participating businesses pay organizations for litter cleanup as a unique fundraising opportunity.
Non-profits and schools can provide an enthusiastic volunteer force. From May to August, groups are paid a weekly rate to clean up litter around a one-block radius of business locations.
Contribution of the City
The City supplies litter baskets within a one-block radius of each location. The baskets are maintained and emptied by the City on a regular basis.
Contribution of Businesses
Businesses using not-for-profit organizations and schools for litter cleanup pay the associations directly for the service at a mutually agreed amount.
Contribution of Non-profit Groups and Schools
Groups plan and coordinate volunteer pickup of litter one hour each week. They are responsible for transportation of members to and from collection areas. Groups are responsible for any required safety equipment for their participants (e.g. shoes, reflective vests).
