City Hall

Edmonton's City Hall is in the heart of downtown and is located in the exact same spot as Edmonton's last City Hall, which was built in 1957.  Over 800,000 guests have passed through the doors of Edmonton's City Hall since it reopened in 1992. Not only is it a place for civic business, but it's also a gathering place for the community to meet and celebrate.

Local architect Gene Dub designed City Hall as a people place - not just a place for civic government, but also a meeting place for the citizens of Edmonton. Combining the old with the new, Gene Dub reused some of the burgundy granite and green marble from the old City Hall in the new City Hall.

City Hall is the home of the Citizen Action Centre, the employment centre, the Sports Hall of Fame and Kids in the Hall.  Over the years, we have celebrated several major events here, such as Wayne Gretzky's retirement in 1999, the 2002 Grey Cup, the 2003 Heritage Classic hockey game, and the Queen's visit in 2005.
