What Council Does
City Council performs most of its official functions in meetings of Council and in standing committees of council. These committees are Community Services, Transportation and Public Works, Executive, Quasi Judicial, Audit and Council Services. Most decisions made by committees are final. On some issues committees make recommendations for consideration by City Council. Council may approve, amend, or defeat the recommendations of a committee, or make and approve different recommendations altogether.
Some subjects discussed by Council and its committees are:
- Policies to set standards of service
- Bylaws which affect various aspects of life in the city
- The City Budget
- Major projects to be undertaken by City departments
