About the Project
The Zoning Bylaw is the rule book for all development that occurs within the city. It sets out the location and size of buildings that can be constructed on private property and the types of activities that can take place on those properties.
Edmonton’s current Zoning Bylaw came into effect in 2001. After 17 years, it’s time for an update - and the timing couldn’t be better! Over the next two years, we’re going to be creating a new City Plan for Edmonton that will guide how we change and grow to a city of 2 million. The Zoning Bylaw Renewal will be designed to make sure our City goals are achieved in our Zoning Bylaw regulations.
Our goal is to create a Zoning Bylaw that:
- Aligns with strategic policies and objectives, including Council's Strategic Plan and the City Plan
- Provides regulations that support better built form outcomes
- Is user-friendly for all audiences, with clear and enforceable regulations
- Is adaptable over time
The Zoning Bylaw Renewal project will get underway in late 2018, and is expected to be completed in 2022. The Zoning Bylaw Renewal project will provide many opportunities for citizens to provide input for creating a new Zoning Bylaw. Learn more about how you can get involved with this project.
