Potter Greens Special Study
The Potter Greens Special Study is an initiative to explore how park-and-ride and transit-oriented development may be utilized to create a safe, vibrant, and attractive mixed used environment adjacent a transit terminal and a natural area in west Edmonton.
The Potter Greens Special Study Area encompasses approximately 6.4 hectares of land located south of Webber Greens Drive (87 Ave) and west of Anthony Henday Drive. In June 2007, City Council approved amendments to the Lewis Farms Area Structure Plan (ASP) and the Potter Greens Neighbourhood Structure Plan (NSP) designating the Special Study Area for further research and analysis.
Community Consultation
Along with the preparation of technical reports to assess the physical characteristics of the land, such as a geotechnical study and a water analysis, the City is also engaging in a public consultation process to gain resident input and feedback on the Special Study Area. The City has hired MVH Urban Planning and Design Inc. to facilitate in the consultation and design process.
Open House and Vision Workshop: November 3, 2008
This open house and workshop provided an opportunity for participants to learn more about the project, on-going technical studies and the adjacent transit centre, and also to take part in a survey and a brainstorming exercise.

Design and Planning Charrette: December 8-11, 2008
The objective of this workshop was to continue the community brainstorming process in order to generate design ideas for the Special Study Area. Participants were led through an interactive exercise and a review of the opportunities, challenges and principles identified by the community at previous meetings.
The ideas generated at the opening night workshop were incorporated with results from previous meetings into a draft design plan and vision for the Special Study Area. The draft plan was presented to the community at the end of the charrette on December 11.

Next Steps
Once the technical studies are completed and the proposed concept finalized, a formal application will be submitted to Sustainable Development for circulation and review. This application will include a plan amendment to incorporate the design concept and vision for the Special Study Area into the Area and Neighbourhood Structure Plans. Depending on the proposed phasing of development, it could also include rezoning and subdivision applications. The formal application process includes many opportunities for continued community input in the future through a mailed notice to neighbourhood residents, a public meeting to discuss the application, and a Public Hearing where City Council considers the proposal and hears any comments from members of the public.
Check this page for updates on the project and upcoming meetings or check the Public Events Calendar for scheduled public meetings.
