Urban Design
Urban Design is about the design of buildings, places, spaces and networks that make up our city, and how people use it. It ranges in scale from a metropolitan region, a city, a street, a public space or to even a single building. Urban design is concerned not just with appearances and built form but with the environmental, economic, social and cultural consequences of design. It is an approach that draws together many different sectors and professions, and includes both the processes and outcomes of decisions. Urban design is not simply concerned with new development but also with the maintenance and enhancement of existing development.
Urban Design is a participatory activity, where the professionals involved communicate with the public, with the politicians and government representatives and with the development community.
