Weather Causes Trashy Conditions for Waste Collectors

City reminds residents to clear snow within 48 hours after snowfall
Fluctuating temperatures followed by snow has created hazardous conditions for pedestrians and City of Edmonton waste collectors. The City is reminding property owners to be vigilant in keeping their property safe by clearing ice and snow.
Under the Community Standards Bylaw, property owners must clear the public sidewalks around their property down to the pavement within 48 hours of a snowfall. Residents may also need to clear ice or spread sand frequently during melt/freeze cycles. The City provides free sand in green boxes located at all Edmonton community leagues.
The City also asks you to remember to protect the safety of waste collectors by:
- clearing snow around your garbage stand.
- avoiding placing waste on slippery areas by eavestrough spouts and sump pumps.
- moving vehicles off the street on collection day.
Slips and falls are a common cause of collector and pedestrian injuries and can be prevented with your help.
