The City of Edmonton Salutes Its Best and Brightest
June 07, 2010
Eight Edmontonians were inducted into the City of Edmonton Hall of Fame at the 59th Annual Salute to Excellence ceremony. Each was honored for improving Edmonton's livability through their outstanding achievements in arts and culture, community service or sports.
"The people we’re honouring bring layers of richness to our city through their remarkable dedication and talent,” said Mayor Stephen Mandel. “They enhance our reputation and make Edmonton a special place.”
A Governor General’s Award winning author, a multi-award winning playwright, a long-time champion for the arts, an internationally renowned painter, an entrepreneur-turned-philanthropist, and several Edmonton athletes were among the inductees.
“These Edmontonians have touched the lives of people across Canada with their passion and leadership,” said Douglas Barber, Chair of the Salute to Excellence Committee. “They are truly outstanding citizens who deserve to be saluted at such a hallmark event.”
