Partial Fire Ban in Effect for Edmonton

Ron Jeske, the City of Edmonton’s fire marshal, is issuing a city-wide partial fire ban due to extremely dry and windy conditions.

“Dry weather conditions mean there is a heightened risk for uncontrolled fires,” said Ron Jeske, fire marshal with Edmonton Fire Rescue Services. “This ban is a preventative measure to help keep Edmontonians safe from the risk of fire.”

The partial fire ban means:

  • NO fires using charcoal, briquettes or wood in park areas
  • NO open air burning, including those with existing permits
  • NO fireworks

This ban does not include:

  • Legal back yard fire pits

All citizens should be extremely cautious when using back yard fire pits, barbeques and other sources of ignition including smoking material.

Any contravention of this ban may result in fines being assessed to recoup costs associated with dispatching Fire Rescue Services to fight the fire.

This ban will remain in effect until conditions change.
