City promotes "ribbon of green" to visitors at famous landmark
Mayor Stephen Mandel toured the City of Edmonton's garden plot at the CN Tower’s Communities in Bloom Gardens today. The Mayor stopped by while in Toronto for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Annual Conference.
Edmonton is part of the 2010 CN Tower Communities in Bloom Gardens at the base of the CN Tower. Edmonton’s display bed provides a snapshot of the activities in and around Edmonton's beautiful North Saskatchewan River Valley on display for CN Tower visitors. The garden uses plant material from our region including mugho pine, prairie grasses and white spruce for a unique look at "Ribbon of Green" activities for visitors and residents. The plot also includes stone, washed rock, limestone and wood to mark distinctive features such as downtown buildings, the river valley, the North Saskatchewan River and trail systems.
The project is helping to promote sustainable development in communities throughout Canada. In 2009, the City of Edmonton won a national Communities in Bloom award in the Communities Over 300,000 category.
