It’s 'Swing Time' at City Golf Courses

Swing into spring with a round of golf at the City of Edmonton’s golf courses and driving range.

“The golf season is well-underway in the city’s scenic river valley,” says Kevin Arnott, Supervisor of Active Living and Wellness with the City of Edmonton. “Our golf courses are in good springtime condition.”

Victoria Golf Course—the oldest municipal golf course in Canada—opened April 14 on permanent greens. The Victoria Driving Range opened April 1, giving golfers a chance to iron out their swings. Hours of operation for the driving range are currently from 10am to 6pm and will extend as daylight increases. Due to minor construction, some of the tee-offs will remain closed for the next couple weeks.

Rundle Park Golf Course opened April 3 on permanent greens. Golfers are encouraged to head to Rundle to tackle this classic Par 3 course.

Riverside Golf Course, with beautiful tree-lined fairways on the edge of the North Saskatchewan River, will open this Saturday, April 17, on permanent greens. Golfers are reminded to take alternate driving routes to the course from downtown and north Edmonton due to construction on the Dawson Bridge. Alternate driving directions and a map are provided on edmonton.ca/golf.

All City courses are currently operating on a walk-on basis. In the coming weeks, golfers will be able to book tee-off times online at edmonton.ca/golf or by calling 780-496-4710.

All pro shops are now open for the season. The shops are fully stocked with the latest golf equipment, apparel and multi-passes for the 2010 season, featuring green fee discounts. Their certified golf pros offer lessons to golfers of all handicaps.

Golf lessons and camps are also offered by the City of Edmonton for children, youth and adults. Visit edmonton.ca/golf to register while spaces are still available.

Play at all courses remains weather dependent.
