Good Neighbour Nomination Deadline Extended
March 01, 2010
If you got caught up in the Olympics and forgot to nominate your good neighbour – it’s not too late.
The City of Edmonton is extending the nomination deadline for the Good Neighbour Awards to March 15.
“We know Edmonton is full of good neighbours, but for whatever reason, we haven’t seen as many nominations this year as we have in the past,” said Councillor Amarjeet Sohi. “We’re extending the deadline so more people can get their nominations in to recognize the little things that people to make our neighbourhoods great.”
To date, 57 nominations have been received. Last year, Edmontonians sent 250 nominations.
The Good Neighbour Awards are an initiative of the City of Edmonton's Office of Community Safety and sponsored by the REALTORS Association of Edmonton. They allow Edmontonians to formally recognize other citizens that make their neighbourhoods better and safer.
Any citizen can nominate their neighbour by completing the nomination form. Entries should include a compelling and unique story that motivates other citizens to get to know their neighbours.
A committee with government, business, non-profit and community interest group members will select up to three winners in each ward. Each winner and their nominator will be recognized at a formal event during Crime Prevention Week in May.
Last year, 29 good neighbours were recognized with a Good Neighbours Award.
