Getting Around the Honda Indy Edmonton

The Honda Indy Edmonton races into town Friday July 23. The City of Edmonton has these tips for citizens going to the Indy or traveling within the vicinity of the Indy during the three-day event.

Traffic near City Centre Airport

  • Yellowhead Trail
    Expect major delays on Yellowhead Trail from 97 Street to St. Albert Trail on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. 107 Avenue, 111 Avenue and 137 Avenue are recommended alternate routes.
  • 121 Street – Kingsway to Yellowhead Trail
    Northbound lanes are closed to public traffic during race hours Saturday and Sunday and from 3pm to 9pm on Friday. Public traffic can use one southbound lane with limited access Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
  • Kingsway
    Expect delays on Kingsway all three days from 109 Street to 124 Street. Kingsway from 119 Street to 124 Street will be closed in the late afternoon on Saturday and Sunday to accommodate pedestrian, bus and taxi movement following end of day racing activities.
  • Airport Road – 119 Street
    Local business access will be maintained. High pedestrian traffic in this area. Travel delays can be expected on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

Drop off and Pickup Area

The public drop off and pickup area will be located on the north service road of Kingsway west of 117 Street/Airport Road. There is NO PUBLIC PARKING at this location.

Taxi Stand

Two taxi stands will be located at:

  • loop road at Gate A on Airport Road
  • on 121 Street North of Gate B

Parking

Public parking is severely limited around City Centre Airport. There is NO PUBLIC PARKING in the surrounding residential neighbourhoods and posted parking restrictions will be strictly enforced.

ETS Park & Ride Information

ETS has a major Park & Ride service to the event for all three days from four sites around the city:

  • Londonderry Mall (144 Avenue and 69 Street)
  • Griesbach Lot (144 Avenue and 112 Street)
  • West Edmonton Mall (90 Avenue and 175 Street)
  • Davies Lot (61 Avenue and 86 Street)

Noise

Car noise will be heard in the communities near the race track starting at 7:30am until approximately 7pm for three days. The Honda Indy Edmonton will be monitoring noise levels throughout the event.
