Get Ready to Lace Up Your Skates and Do Figure Eights on City Ponds

Skating at Hawrelak Park

December 23, 2010

City crews have been working feverishly to clear off and prepare City skating ponds in time for Christmas.  All rinks on City ponds, at Hawrelak, Rundle and Mill Woods Campus Parks, will be open by 2pm on December 24.

“Our goal was to have the large ponds in Hawrelak, Rundle and Mill Woods Campus Parks open for outdoor ice skating over the holidays,” says Kevin Moore, River Valley Trails Coordinator.

The rinks will be open to the public from 11am-10pm, seven days a week. Mill Woods Campus Park opens Thursday afternoon, Rundle Park opens Friday morning and Hawrelak Park will be open Friday afternoon. Please note that hockey sticks, pucks or balls are not allowed on public skating ice.

In addition to pond skating at Hawrelak, Rundle and Mill Woods Campus Parks, residents can get out and enjoy the City’s outdoor rinks located at Castle Downs, City Hall, Jackie Parker Park and Victoria Park Oval. Check with your local Community League for skating in your community.
