Fringe Fest App Winners Announced

August 12, 2010

Fringe Theatre Festival fans can now find the best shows on their phone in seconds, thanks to a prize-winning entry in the Fringe Theatre portion of the City of Edmonton’s Apps4Edmonton contest.

The FringeFest app offers a list of all shows, a map and a system for rating the different productions. Developed by Gregg and Angella Coppen, it works on smart phones, mobile devices, and PC web browsers.

As part of the Apps4Edmonton contest, the City partnered with the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival to encourage developers to use open data in creative and unique ways that speak to Fringe Festival customers - just as artists use the Festival as a platform for innovative, revealing theatre.

The Apps4Edmonton contest wraps up in the fall and more than $50,000 in prize money is still available to be won. The contest closes Friday, August 27, 2010. Apps4Edmonton encourages residents to develop software applications that will benefit Edmontonians. The City made this competition possible by developing an Open Data Catalogue earlier this year and making data accessible to anyone in the community.
