December 13, 2010
Firefighters make house call to contest winner
What's the best way to get rid of wrapping paper from your Christmas presents?
a) burn it all in a fireplace
b) put it in a blue bag for recycling
c) feed it to a goat
If you said B, you’re right and should enter to win Edmonton Fire Rescue Services’ 12 Tips of Christmas Fire Safety contest. If you said A or C, it’s time to brush up on your fire safety and fire prevention.
Every holiday season, Edmonton Fire Rescue Services sees an increase in residential fires. This year, it’s holding a contest to promote fire safety and fire prevention in your home.
Between December 13 and December 24, Edmonton Fire Rescue will reveal one fire safety tip per day. Watch for them by:
- following the City of Edmonton on Twitter
- liking the City of Edmonton on Facebook
- watching Shaw TV
- listening to 630 CHED or iNews880
- reading Fire Talk, Edmonton Fire Rescue’s newsletter that will run in the Edmonton Examiner on December 22.
How do I enter the 12 Tips of Christmas Fire Safety contest?
When you see or hear a Christmas fire safety tip, send an email to firecontest@edmonton.ca in which you include the tip, your phone number and where you saw or heard the information.
Twitter users can also enter the contest by re-tweeting a fire tip.
Contestants are allowed one entry per day.
What do I get if I win?
The winner, selected in a draw, will receive a fire safety package that Edmonton Fire Rescue firefighters, fire prevention officers and Sparky the dog will personally deliver. This package includes:
- two fire extinguishers
- three smoke alarms
- one carbon monoxide detector
- activity books and fire helmets for children
- a tour of a fire truck
If the winning entrant is a Twitter user, he or she will be contacted using Twitter’s private messaging function.
