City Buys STARS’ Facility at City Centre Airport

City Centre Airport

September 22, 2010

STARS and the City of Edmonton have reached a tentative deal that will allow STARS air ambulance to continue to operate at the City Centre Airport, while affording them the ability to plan the relocation of their operations.

“Council directed that City Centre Airport be closed over time, which allows Alberta Health Services the time to plan to move all air transport medical operations, including Medevac. This agreement helps provide that time,” says Phil Sande, Executive Director, City Centre Airport Lands Redevelopment Project. “Although over 90% of medical flights into City Centre Airport are non-emergency patient transfer flights, it’s important that a plan is in place to support all emergency flights.”

The deal is expected to be finalized by December 31, 2010. STARS will remain in a portion of a building located southwest of runway 12-30 under a sub tenancy lease agreement.  STARS sub tenancy lease allows them to continue to operate in the facility and work with Alberta Health Services to continue providing excellent patient care.
