Century Park Pedway Opens to Public Service
January 12, 2010
Elevated walkway offers safe crossing of 111th Street.
On Tuesday January 12, 2010 the overhead pedestrian walkway above 111th Street at the new Century Park LRT Station opened to public service.
Like the Southgate LRT Station, the Century Park LRT Station won’t be open to the public until Spring 2010, when the new South LRT extension becomes operational. But the pedways at both stations are opening in advance, offering safe crossings above 111th Street.
Pedestrians can use the pedways to connect to transit stations at Southgate and Century Park, as well as adjacent neighbourhoods, schools and nearby shopping locations. The pedways are sheltered from the elements and fully accessible to all citizens by stairway, escalator and elevator. Both pedways are open Monday through Saturday from 5am to 1:40am, and on Sundays from 5:30am to 12:45am. Security cameras inside the pedways provide 24-hour surveillance to maximize public safety.
Pedway users will not have access to LRT stations or platforms, which are protected by roll shutters, until the South LRT extension opens to public service in Spring 2010.
