Celebrate our Most Precious Natural Resource
November 12, 2010
Celebrate our children and youth on November 20th – National Child Day. It’s a day to remember that children need support, encouragement, and respect to grow to their full potential – and that we each have a part to play.
Join Mayor Stephen Mandel at the Whitemud Crossing Library as he presents the official proclamation at Family Storytime. Then listen to stories read aloud by Councillor Kim Krushell and Christopher Smith from Success By 6®. Councillor Don Iveson and Dave Tyler from the Edmonton Public Library will also be on hand to recognize this special day.
Date: Saturday, November 20, 2010
Time: 11-11:30am
Location:
Edmonton Public Library
Whitemud Crossing Branch, 4211-106 Street
The Edmonton Public Library’s Family Storytime involves stories, songs and games for the whole family to help parents and children learn to share and love stories and books. The United Nations’ Rights of the Child include the right to a good education, coupled with parents’ responsibility to provide education and guidance to their children. Family Storytime is a perfect way to encourage your children’s love of reading on National Child Day.
The Government of Canada designated November 20 as National Child Day in 1993 to mark two historic events:
- The 1959 signing of the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of the Child, and
- The adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989.
On National Child Day, wear a blue ribbon to show your support for creating the best possible results for children, youth and families.
