Candidates Reminded Not to Use Edmonton Elections’ Logo
October 07, 2010
Candidates and other organizations are reminded that the Edmonton Elections’ logo is property of the City of Edmonton and must not be used by any other organization or person without explicit written permission.
The reminder comes after two incidents of improper use – one as a Twitter avatar and one on an internal document by an organization external to the City, which was circulated by email and forwarded beyond internal distribution.
"I want to be clear -we do not tolerate unauthorized uses of the Election logo. We are non-partisan – our job is managing the election," said Returning Officer Alayne Sinclair.
The logo remains the sole property of the City of Edmonton. It cannot be used for any purpose other than as determined by the City of Edmonton. Immediate action will be taken should any unauthorized use be found, and subsequent legal action will be taken as necessary.
"It’s vital to democracy that people understand that the Elections office is completely unbiased and objective," added Sinclair. "That’s why we take this issue so seriously."
