B.C. Smoke Affects Edmonton Air Quality
August 19, 2010
Thick smoke from British Columbia forest fires is covering the Edmonton area. This is expected to continue until Sunday, August 22, 2010.
The Province of Alberta has issued an information bulletin asking citizens to take precautions against potential health risks associated with deteriorating air quality. People with asthma, bronchitis or emphysema are warned to remain indoors, keep their windows closed and take any preventative measures their physicians have previously recommended.
Edmonton Fire Rescue Services has experienced a spike in 911 calls from concerned residents reporting smoke or the smell of smoke in their communities. Any citizen who believes there is an emergency unrelated to the B.C forest fire smoke should call 911.
