Downtown LRT Connector
City Council approved the Downtown LRT Connector Concept Plan, which would see the LRT travel on 102 Avenue near Churchill Square. The Downtown LRT will encourage new development and promote a more vibrant and pedestrian-oriented Downtown.
Concentrating shops, homes and work near transit
Council approved Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Guidelines. The Guidelines call for land near current and future LRT stations and transit centres to include retail, residential and business developments. This will transform neighbourhoods throughout the city into places where people can easily walk, bike and take transit to their daily destinations.
Renewal projects move ahead
Council approved borrowing to fund three projects: the replacement of the Walterdale Bridge, land acquisition for the future Southeast to West LRT line and to build the new Northwest Campus for Edmonton Police Service. This funding moves ahead the projects approved in the three-year Capital Budget in December 2011.
City and transit union agree on new contract
Council and Amalgamated Transit Union 569 have ratified a collective agreement for 2011-2013. The agreement provides for wage increases of 2.5% in 2011, 3% in 2012 and 3% in 2013.
