Please Party Responsibly on Halloween

Do your part to “Save the Party”
With this Saturday’s Halloween, the City is anticipating a party atmosphere throughout the weekend and is preparing to keep the community safe and encouraging people to party responsibly.
Bars and nightclubs will be promoting the Halloween theme and many people will be wearing costumes, masks and make-up. There are also numerous events at hotels, clubs, the convention centre, as well as the Edmonton Eskimos game on Friday where people will come dressed in Halloween gear.
“We want people to have a great time, and for guests, patrons, hosts and staff to be safe,” says Nicole Chapdelaine with Responsible Hospitality Edmonton’s Public Safety Compliance Team, a multi-agency group that works to enhance public safety in and around licensed establishments.
“We are aware there will be multiple events both Friday and Saturday night this year and we are working with the establishments and venues hosting events to ensure we are minimizing the potential for any risk to people or property,” she says. First responder agencies, including Edmonton Police and Fire Rescue Services, are prepared for this weekend.
Chapdelaine advises that masks be removed before people gain entry to licensed establishments as well as when people order alcoholic drinks. People should also be aware that venues could ban Halloween costume accessories that could be mistaken for, or used as, weapons.
Closing time for licensed establishments will be the same as usual, despite the fact that clocks will turn back an hour on Saturday night. Late night party goers will not be able to stay an extra hour.
“People should take responsibility for their own personal safety and the safety and enjoyment of others,” adds Chapdelaine. “Be aware and plan ahead for your Halloween adventures this weekend.”
Responsible Hospitality Edmonton encourages people to be aware their party behaviour shapes the party experience, “Do your part to Save the Party.”
