Rail Grinding Operations on LRT Tracks

Annual maintenance taking place November 4 – 20, 2009
Anyone in the vicinity of the LRT tracks may notice some sparks along the rail as Edmonton Transit performs an annual maintenance procedure. Rail grinding operations, done each year in order to maintain ride quality, will be performed on all sections of track between Clareview and Century Park. There will be no interruption to LRT service during this process.
Rail grinding will take place every night between 7:30pm and 5:30am starting Wednesday November 4th. Operations are expected to be complete by November 20.
Edmonton Transit is tentatively scheduled to perform rail grinding between Southgate and Century Park toward the end of next week. Motorists in the area can expect to see flagmen directing traffic at LRT crossings where the crossing arms are not yet functional (Whitemud Drive, 40 Ave., 37 Ave., 34 Ave., Saddleback Road). Traffic flow will be maintained, but barricades may be required to channel traffic to appropriate lanes. Please be prepared to follow directions from flagmen. Impact on motorists will be minimal as the work is scheduled for periods of low traffic.
